common questions
from nervous patients
-
Your first appointment is about getting to know you, understanding what’s been worrying you and taking things at a pace that feels manageable. We’ll talk through your dental health, any concerns you have and what you’d like to achieve. We can then explain what we recommend and your options clearly. Nothing happens without your agreement, and you can ask questions or take a break at any point.
-
Absolutely. If you’ve had a difficult or upsetting experience in the past, you’re very welcome to tell us about it. Knowing what happened, what made you uncomfortable and what you’d like us to do differently can help us make your visit feel safer and more manageable. You only need to share as much as you feel comfortable with.
-
Yes. If you’re particularly anxious about dental treatment, sedation may be an option to help you feel calmer and more relaxed. We’ll talk you through the options available and help you decide what feels right for you.
-
Absolutely. If having a partner, friend, or family member with you would help you feel more comfortable, you’re very welcome to bring someone along. Depending on the treatment and type of sedation used, we may actually recommend that someone accompanies you.
-
Yes. We regularly look after people who feel extremely nervous or frightened about dental treatment, including people who have avoided the dentist for many years. We can take things slowly, explain everything before we do it and agree ways for you to stay in control throughout your visit. For patients who need additional support, dental sedation may also be an option, which we can discuss with you
-
You’re always in control. Before we start, we can agree on a simple signal, such as raising your hand, that tells us you need a break. If you give us that signal, we stop. No questions asked.
-
Keeping you comfortable is one of our biggest priorities. We’ll explain what you can expect before we begin, use appropriate pain relief or anaesthetic where needed, and check in with you throughout your treatment. If anything feels uncomfortable, tell us straight away.
-
Your first appointment costs £89. We’ll explain what is included before you book, and if we recommend any further treatment, we’ll talk you through your options and costs clearly before you make any decisions.
