What is an initial consultation?

If you have not attended the clinic previously, we would like to take the time to get to know you and what your dental problems are, as well as what you would like to change about your dental health and appearance. This takes times to do effectively and accurately, and so we allow an hour with our principal dentist Dr Williams at this initial consultation.

At your initial consultation you will be introduced to Dr Tim Williams and shown to the consulting area. Here you can discuss your hopes, fears, past medical and dental history and anything else that you have always wanted to know, but haven’t been given the time to ask previously.

Following a very thorough and gentle examination including digital x-rays and clinical photographs of your teeth if necessary, Dr Williams will discuss his findings with you in a very positive and non-judgmental way. You will be provided with treatment options and all of the facts so that the choices that you make are the best ones for you.

During your first visit, you will also be provided with a printed treatment plan and itemised treatment costs along with further information, timing and sequencing of treatments.

We will warmly welcome you and do all that we can to make you comfortable and at ease. We will be on hand at any time during or after your visit to answer any questions you may have.

Here is the step-by-step process of a first appointment with The Lytham Dental Clinic:
1
On arriving at our relaxing patient lounge, we will ask you to complete a medical history questionnaire so we are fully up to speed with your health status (unless you bring your completed questionnaire that was sent with your Welcome Pack). You are welcome to indulge in any of our
complimentary refreshments.
2
You will be shown to Dr Williams’ consulting area where he will discuss any concerns: our first priority is to put you completely at ease no matter how long that takes. Dr Williams will take the time to listen to your needs, review your medical and dental history, answer all of your questions and address any of your concerns. This will be an informal chat to establish your requirements and find out exactly how we can help.
3
Dr Williams will then conduct an extensive examination, including oral cancer screening, gum-health appraisal and full-mouth computerised dental charting. A small number of relevant digital x-rays and clinical photographs may also be commissioned in order to assist with diagnosis, and a comprehensive explanation and prognosis of your dental and oral condition will be provided. He will discuss thoroughly the different treatment options available: exactly what is involved in the treatments and the advantages and disadvantages, if any.
4
Once Dr Williams has gathered all the relevant information, he will prepare a personalised written treatment plan which will include a copy of your dental chart and a full and comprehensive estimate, for you to take away.
5
Our Treatment Co-ordinator will provide you with a copy of the plan and furnish you with all the relevant information to get you started.
6
We want you to leave fully informed and happy with the service, and so we will also agree a convenient time to arrange a courtesy call to discuss any outstanding queries.
