What is Botox®?
Botox®, or Azzalure® (the name of the product used at The Lytham Dental Clinic) is an injectable, non-surgical local muscle relaxant adapted from the botulinum toxin type-A. It is specifically designed for use in aesthetic indications and is well tolerated when used at therapeutic doses. The results of these anti-wrinkle injections allow improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe active lines and wrinkles in the upper face, thereby softening expressions and helping reverse the signs of aging. The effects are temporary, typically lasting 4 – 6 months, after which time, in order to prolong the effects, further product is required.
Why would Botox® be suitable for me?
You are unhappy with active lines and wrinkles:
- On your forehead
- Between your eyebrows (‘frown lines’)
- Around your eyes (‘crows feet’)
Q. Will I see the effect immediately?
A. No. The effects take, on average, some 2 – 4 days. The speed of action will depend on the strength of your facial muscles and your individual response to the treatment.
Q. Will Botox® remove all my lines?
A. No. The product only works on active lines (those lines caused by muscle movement). Static lines (those lines caused by sun damage) will not usually respond to treatment as they are not caused by muscle movement.
Q. I have seen celebrities on TV who have a typical ‘Hollywood’ frozen look. Will this be me?
A. Absolutely not! Here at The Lytham Dental Clinic we have perfected techniques to give a more subtle, softer, younger appearance. The ‘Hollywood’ frozen look is created through injection of high doses of the product.
Q. Why do dentists perform facial aesthetic injections?
A. As a dentist, Dr Williams performs injections all day, every day. With this in mind he has the steadiest of hands and the gentlest of technique, which has been perfected over the last 25 years. In addition, dentists have an excellent understanding of facial anatomy and the way in which facial muscles work. Dentists and doctors are the only groups of professional who can legally prescribe Botox/ Azzalure.
Q. Is Botox® used for other treatments?
A. Yes absolutely. Over the last 25 years, the product has been used by various practitioners to treat many other conditions including chronic migraine headaches, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), high smile (lip) lines (‘gummy’ smile), blepharospasm (abnormal contraction or twitch of the eyelid) and strabismus (a condition in which the eyes are not properly aligned with each other).
